The north Bohemian PLAC (Platform for Landscape, Architecture and Culture) association has been active in Jablonec nad Nisou since 2013. Its main goals include the cultivation of public spaces within the city and the landscape, nature conservation and promoting the public good. The platform organizes lectures, discussions, exhibitions, seminars, happenings and publications about architecture, with a strong focus on high-quality architectural design and a conceptual approach to the formation of public space. PLAC has also found new use for the Baroque chapel which stands among a suburb of pre-fab buildings, where they currently run a contemporary art gallery. The group, composed mostly of architects, urban planners and related professions, systematically supports discussion on the nature and quality of the public spaces in Jablonec nad Nisou – for example, they published a guide to art in the public space. PLAC plays the role of mediator, formulating commentaries on strategic city plans, and their platform Co se chystá (What’s coming up) works to inform the general public about municipally-organized projects.
