Andras Blazsek - Tape II. (Jorge Boehringer jh.)

Sound Performance from Reel to Reel and Electronics
Thu 8.4. - 21:00

The sonic elements featured in the installation are derived from microphones planted within two analog tape recorders. These devices, invented for the documentation, preservation and conservation of sound, are used to provide the "voices" that play protagonist to the piece: streamed through a computer, the sounds are subtly manipulated and played back onto surrounding speakers, thus accentuating specific defining characteristics of the devices themselves. The resulting composition circles around the machines, situated at the center of a sculptural formation that consists of four speakers, two tape recorders (Akai 4000 DS and Tesla B 100) and a small neon strip lamp on supporting structure.

Jorge Boehringer aka Core of the Coalman(US/CZ) consists of continuity and discontinuity for viola, voice and circuits on the border between order and chaos.. Sonically diverse and sometimes explosive in texture, Core of the Coalman emphasizes the physicality of sound and its psychedelic relationship with our perceptual and environmental mechanics. Experimental in nature, this project has comfortably shared programs with everything from rock bands (from Deerhoof to Skullflower), to power electronics and noise (such as D Yellow Swans and 16 Bitch Pileup), and famed avant-garde figures (like Ikue Mori, Pauline Oliveros, and Ghedalia Tazartes), and has been featured on contemporary classical music concerts as well as in major museums and gallery performances.

Core of the Coalman has performed throughout North America, Europe, and Japan.

Jorge currently teaches Sound Production and Interactive Media at Prague College of Teeside University in Prague, Czech Republic. He enjoys natural science, animals, and other outdoor activities.
