Hearn Gadbois is a percussionist who combines traditional middle eastern instruments and instrumental techniques with an eclectic 'outsider' art sensibility, wherein any influence or material is fair game for exploration. He designs and builds many of his own instruments, playing them with the hands and feet, and has collaborated with artists as diverse as Yoko Ono, Bebe Miller, and Carter Burwell, in addition to many others. He grew up in Minnesota, came of age in New York City, and lives in Prague, where he teaches at the Skola Ritmu, and collaborates with his wife, dancer Rena Milgrom. He has recorded two solo cds, Joinery and One Thousand and One Fingers, and is at work on a third, Music for Films.
