MLOK association in cooperation with Skolska gallery and supported by Austrian Cultural Forum in Prague present Die Strecke (dir. Max Neufeld, 1927).
Fabian Pollack and Alexandr Vatagin had their first mutual musical encounter at the Viennale 2010 film festival. The prestigious festival invited them to compose the music for a silent movie called Die Strecke (The Line) from the year 1927. Since the collaboration worked out very well the musicians decided to do further performances. A 64 minute journey awaits the listener/viewer, leading him through the aesthetics of a beautiful black and white universe, coupled with the sounds of a guitar and a chello that finely interweave Improvised Music, Ambient/Noise and Jazz. They accompany and adorn the movie, but at the same time they intervene and therefore give it a unique touch.
A railway signalman’s wife is feeling constricted by her parochial life and yearns for the sophistication and excitement of the city, that she only knows from magazines. The suave, attractive new controller fills her head with dreams in order to seduce her. Accused of adultery, she is spurned by her narrow-minded husband. In a dramatic finale, she loses her way while following the rails through wind and rain toward an almost certain death.
