Presentation and christening of the book “Observer”.
The book is based on the project “The Observer” in which Jan Poupě filmed a variety of places and landscapes from a bird’s-eye view using a camera suspended from a box kite. The visual core of the publication derives from these recordings, to which Jan Poupě, together with Jan Novák, subsequently added pictures and graphics. The innovation consists in how the publication was edited. The photographs are arranged not chronologically, but according to altitude of the camera at the time of exposure. The book begins at the lowest point in the Czech Republic and gradually progresses through the different levels and situations up to the top of Sněžka (the highest mountain in Bohemia). The whole system of the book is an allegory of comprehending one’s place and physicality in the landscape we live in.
