Héctor Rey; E CONVERSO

free improvisation
Thu 13.2. - 19:30

Héctor Rey is an artist based in Berlin, working in the fields of sculpture and improvised music. His sculpture work has been exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions in galleries and art spaces along the USA, Finland or Spain (SVA, Galleria Atski, Montehermoso Kulturunea, Windsor Kulturgintza...). He has been awarded with several grants in institutions like Aalto University (Helsinki) and artist residencies in art centers like the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Concerning music, he addresses improvisation as a technical development that takes place in the face of a process of materialization on the grounds of a logic one could identify as sculptural, radically focusing on the morphological configurations of matter.

He has played in festivals and venues throughout the USA, Spain, Poland, Finland and elsewhere, including Personal Collective (curated by Seijiro Murayama), Friv Move Zamek, In Sonora, Musica Ex-Machina, Zarata Fest, IBA concert series, ¡ESCUCHA¡ concert series and many others, working both solo and with other artists such as Seijiro Murayama, Miguel A. García, Lali Barrière (as one half of Kymyz duo), Tomás Gris (as one half of ALS OB duo), Jorge Núñez (as one half of Grumos Lalai duo), Oier Iruretagoiena, Patryk Lichota, Konrad Chyl, Hubert Wińczyk, etc.; visual artists like Shu Lea Cheang; experimental dancers like Dominique Starck, Marianela León, Przemyslaw Kamiński, Agnieszka Kryst, Marta Romaszkan and has shared the stage with artists like Margarida Garcia among others. Current collaborations include composer-performers and improvisers like Rishin Singh, Simon Charles or Rolando Hernández.

Besides that, he runs the Nueni Recs. record label and is the organizer of a monthly series of record listening sessions called Murrunmaldiak.

E CONVERSO band was formed in 2011. In its music, the band works with improvisation in all possible ways. It connects influences of New-York downtown scene, contemporary European jazz and free improvisation. It works with mood, chance and emotions so some compositions may sound completely different every night.
