A debate to remind us how deeply Henry Miller’s book has become rooted in the Czechoslovak milieu. The first foreign language translation of Tropic of Cancer came out in the Czech language, from the V. Čejka publishing house, in a wrapper by Henri Matisse, in the fall of 1938. Miller's work influenced artists such as Group 42, Bohumil Hrabal, Vladimir Boudník, the Czech underground, and continues to reach new generations.
Debate participants (may) include: Vladimir Binary, a literary historian and editor; Adam Borzič, poet; and Tomas Pavlicek, head of the literary archive PNP. The debate will be moderated by the Americanist Andrew Skovajsa. The exhibition will also includes a short documentary film about Henry Valentine Miller, and the group Paumanok will play.
