Slavomir Krekovič

Resident Artist
1.5.31.7.

Slavomir Krekovič is a musician, musicologist, curator, editor and cultural organizer. As a music performer he has developed a deep interest in creative possibilities of interactive electronics over the past few years. He has been exploring several hardware and software platforms for musical performance (MAX/MSP - ppooll, sensors, controller apps for iOS and Android, analog and digital synthesizers, etc.).
His residential project „ Hyperinstrumental music“ explores new possibilities in the field of interactive computer music. It is focused on possibilities of human-human and human-machine musical interaction, using self-built "hyperinstruments" for improvised solo and collaborative performances. Hyperinstrument can be defined as being an instrument that can have extraordinary, semiautomated response to relatively simple real-time inputs (like new generative music system from Pete and Tim Cole - Noatikl).
Hyperinstrumental music project aims at breaking traditional boundaries between musical instrument design, human interaction and sound generation in frame of a real-time sound performance. This project is continuing of Slavomir´s research of musical interactivity at New York University and Columbia University in NYC as a Fulbright grantee in 2011-12, as well as the performance with several players using touchscreen sensor controllers at the opening of the Czech-Slovak Pavilion at Architecture Biennale in Venice 2012.
The new performance setup developed during the residency will make use of the just recently available multitouch controllers (tablet computers) operated by players, that will be wirelessly connected to another computer with interactive software processing the input data and generating the final sound.
