Martin Alacam

Born in Istanbul in 1974 to a Turkish-Czech family, I found an early fascination in music. Learned some guitar at the age of 11 and started to play with my school friends, who all managed to stick with music: him, him and him. Between 1990-1998 I lived in Austria, went in and out of the Vienna City Conservatory, started the "best band you never heard" Metamorphosis, wrote music for theatre and dance, played with some really weird persons.

In 1998 I moved to Prague. Independent record label Rachot released the first Metamorphosis record and also booked some studio time to record and release the project Sing Sing in the following year. Up to date I recorded 2 more albums with Metamorphosis (on Leo records, who also release some musicians I very much respect, such as Sun Ra or Evan Parker) and played concerts in most European countries, USA and Russia.

I worked on multimedia projects (like this), was guest or studio musician on a wide range of studio sessions and concerts from pop to noise orgies, even singing a tune for a computer game.

My interest in improvised music led to collaborations with many different musicians (Hearn Gadbois, Michael Delia, Dan Janál, Beth Custer, Vladimir Václavek, Pavel Fajt, to name a few). To me improvisation means communication and an attempt to compose music on the spot. I like wall of sound, but don't fear melodies.

Currently I continue playing with Metamorphosis, the duo SU and the new trio with Hearn Gadbois and Michael Delia, "Golden Teeth".
