In connection with his participation in the group show “What Was Documentary Is Now Something Else“, curated by Reinhard Braun from Camera Austria, Philip Gaißer uses White Billboard to tell a half personal, half metaphorical story about migration and coexistence, which in a way sets the tone for his installation inside Fotograf Gallery. The text was written for his book Ants 1, published by Camera Austria on the occasion of another recent exhibition entitled "Disputed Landscape: Enacting Landscape" (2015).
Philip Gaißer, born 1980, is a Hamburg-based German artist whose works have been shown at Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof, Hamburg (DE), Albertinum Dresden (DE), and Camera Austria, Graz (AT), among other venues. He was awarded „Stipendium für Bildende Kunst“ by the City of Hamburg (2010) and the „Förderpreis der Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung“ (2013). He has published several artist’s books, including Simplex Morph (Texten 2010), To Survey A Black Hole For White Dwarfs (ATP Press, 2013, Alma (Spector Books, 2014), and most recently, Ants 1 (Edition Camera Austria, 2015). Together with Niklas Hausser and Carsten Benger, Gaißer runs the exhibition space ATP Bahrenfeld in Hamburg.
