Gál, Andrej

Slovak cellist Andrej Gál is a member of the ensemble for contemporary music Ostravská banda and cooperates (on a period instrument) with Musica Aeterna. As a soloist, he has performed with Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, the Slovak Chamber Orchestra, and the Quasars Ensemble. He periodically performs compositions for solo violoncello (V. Godár, M. Tóth, E. Carter, G. Ligeti, A. Schnittke, H. Lachenmann, G. Kantcheli, L. Berio, G. Crumb, inter alia) and is member of an improvisation group with composer Miro Tóth. Gál has played at festivals and on stages such as Lincoln, Center, New York; Zankel Hall of Carnegie Hall, New York; Paris Conservatory; Bachfest Leipzig; Prague Spring; Warsaw Autumn; and Ostrava Days; and he has appeared in performance in Vilnius, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Berlin, and Lisbon.
