Rouba3i

Rouba3i (ruba’i, the Arabic word for quartet) was created in 2002 when Mazen Kerbaj (trumpet), Sharif Sehnaoui (guitar), and Christine Abdelnour (saxophone), three of the pioneering voices of free improvisation in Beirut, invited French percussionist Le Quân Ninh to join them in playing as a quartet (Rouba3i1). The group works as a trio with a revolving guest percussionist. The fifth incarnation, with Norwegian drummer Ingar Zach, is the first to be recorded. To date, there have been some twenty Rouba3i combinations.

As the guest percussionist Tony Buck will join Rouba3i during vs. Interpretation 2016. As a drummer, percussionist, improviser, guitarist, video artist, and producer, Tony Buck has been involved in a highly diverse array of projects but is probably best known around the world as a member of the trio The Necks.
