Joaquín Luzoro Vial
Resident Artist
1.9. – 30.11.
Joaquín Luzoro Vial is a 24-year-old Chilean artist who makes use of photography, video, and digital media in his work. He is also interested in sound and performance art. His works are site-specific.
Luzoro Vial proposes the project "Foto Came" ("ID photo"), a site-specific work, composed of a series of performances done in a selected neighborhood of Prague. It is based on previous works by Luzoro Vial that he did in Santiago, Chile. These performances consist in leaving an ID photograph of the artist in different places of the neighborhood, and then, using a hidden camera, videotape people finding the photograph, perhaps picking it up, looking at it; recording what they do with it.
Luzoro Vial states: "The main idea is to do the project in different places that can reflect different realities and show different people. I think that art creates an awareness about production methods and human relationships produced by the technologies of its day, and that by shifting these, it makes them more visible, enabling us to see them right down to the consequences they have on day to day life."
"For the performances in Prague, I do not want to drop the artist's ID photo, I want to drop ID photos of people from Santiago de Chile, specially people from the Galeria Metropolitana's neighbourhood, which is a popular neighbourhood called Pedro Aguirre Cerda. So, before traveling to Prague, I will do some ID photo sessions in the Galena Metropolitana with the people of the neighbourhood who are always participating in the Metropolitana's shows. (The expositions at Galeria Metropolitana are always in contact with the people of the neighbourhood such as site-specific pieces.)"
Luzoro Vial is the Open Studios UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries Laureate for 2007.
