MUSIC FOR A CONTEXT
"Dimensions, air and moisture, projections and intersections, sound contextual distances providing the unprecedented and the surprising. These musicians of bad weather, voices and subtleties intertwine between you and your environment, ringing of bells, voice threads, and the sharp sound of a sewing machine".
Llorenç Barber

Composer Llorenç Barber is best known as the author of large-scale pieces played on all of the church bells within a town. Throughout the '90s he was commissioned by a number of European cities and music festivals to create these unique pieces. The Catalan composer has also collaborated on works with Javier Maderuelo, choreographer Antonio Aparisi (for "Gargoyles," based on Valencia's Lonja building), and singer/performance artist Fatima Miranda, with whom Barber co-founded the group Taller de Música Mundana. Barber was also a founding member of l'Ensemble Actum in the early '70s. Several CDs of his work, including Linguopharincampanology, have been released in Europe. LlorençBarber has been inventing bands since the 70s: Actum (diphonic minimalism), mundane music workshop (improvised contact and context music), Flautus Vocis Trio (reinventing phonetic poetry from gossip, advertisement and markets”); festivals (Ensems. Alternative music events in Valencia; FLES, Festivals of Free sound expression; Nits d’Aielo and Art; Anem Anem); music courses, events and conferences (Music Departament, Universidad Complutense; Paralelo Madrid-Other Musica); magazines (Senderos for 2000),…

Llorenç lived in Madrid for many years (1972-2004). Madrid fostered, thanks to Llorenc’s mediation, the projects of artists such as Terry Riley, Jaap Blonk, Gordon Monahan, Ron Kuivila, Malcom Palestine, Burkhard Stangl, Christof Kurzmann, Rolf Julius, Phil Niblock, Alvin Lucier, Lawrence Casserley, Thomas Clements, Stefano Scodanibbio,… Llorençwrote essays on John Cage, Giacinto Scelci, Morton Feldman, Luc Ferrari,…

Horloge of Dreamers is a small musical ensemble dedicated to improvisational chamber music, founded in 1992 by Jaroslav and Michal Kořán. The constellation of the musicians' set up is not fixed. There is a wide variation in the group, the focal point being JK's creation, the Horologe; a musical instrument or sound installation made of various metal objects. Through drumming, a series of soft and long tones arise, creating a richly textured auditory landscape. The themes appear and vary in a kaleidoscopic manner as there is no linear structure to the musical piece, but rather a series of patterns; there is no order, but chaos. The rooms in which the Dreamers perform are tranquil, as it is of the utmost importance that the music emerges out of a complete silence.
