Bárta, Marcel
Czech saxophonist, clarinetist, improviser, composer, and visual artist Marcel Bárta got his first engagement as a jazz alto saxophonist in Milan Svoboda’s Contraband and went on to win a scholarship to Berklee College of Music. Barta has played and recorded with, among others, Gustav Brom Orchestra, Vladimir Václavek, Gumbo, Lanugo, Batteries, Toxique, Trina, Theater Vizita, David Dorůžka, Tara Fuki, Karel Ruzicka, and Jaromir Honzák. In 2005, he participated in the band Open Sextet and won first prize at the prestigious Montreaux Jazz Festival. Bárta is currently a member of the bands Nuo, Zuzana Dumková Band, Projekt Z, Face Of the Bass, Tomáš Hobzek Quartet, Vertigo Quintet, Muff, and DoMa Ensemble, and he performs in a duo with a singer and violoncellist Dorota Barová.
