"The bell is for me a symbol of warning. The voice of the bells used to be messages of important events or calamities. However, I constructed my bells from non-resonating materials. They are silent. I put an accent on their visual form. The location is also important – in the cellars under the campanile of the granary."

Martijn Troost is a Dutch sculptor who graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 1990. His sculptures have been made on commission, during symposia or as part of his personal work. He has also been working as a guest teacher at several Art Academies in the Netherlands as well as abroad. At the same time, he has been active as organiser and curator for several international exhibitions and exchanges.
