Gerhard Fröhlich (* 1953 in Wels, Upper Austria) is an Austrian cultural theorist and science researcher.
Studied social philosophy and sociology at the University of Vienna (inter alia with Norbert Leser and Erich Bodzenta), where he earned his doctorate in 1981 with a focus on science research. After studies in Hannover, u. a. he worked for Oskar Negt from 1982 to 1987 as a research associate and lecturer at the Institute of Sociology and Social Anthropology of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg under Henrik Kreutz, before joining the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU), Institute of Philosophy and Science in 1988 as a university assistant in Science theory. He habilitated at the JKU 2004 for the subject "Cultural Theory and Science Research" and since then has been working there as an extraordinary university professor.
He is since 1990 chairman of the so-called "cultural institute at the JKU" and since 1996 spokesman for the "Section Cultural Theory and Cultural Research" of the Austrian Sociological Association.
Since 2004 he is also stv. Institute Director of the "Institute for Cultural Economics and Cultural Research" of the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU). Since 2017 Gerhard Fröhlich is director of the Institute for Philosophy and Philosophy of Science of the Johannes Kepler University Linz and chairman of the "Austrian Society for Documentation and Information (ÖGDI)".

Since 2011 Gerhard Fröhlich also organizes annual symposia on controversial issues of (new) media, politics, science and culture with substantial support from the Austrian Society for Political Education (ÖGPB).
