A concert by the electronic duo Tonic Train (Sarah Washington and Knut Aufermann) will take place during Picnic Thursdays at the City Gallery of Pardubice. Creative cooking with artists, theorists and critics together with the public at one table.

Picnic Thursdays is an event organized by the City Gallery of Pardubice in cooperation with Offcity, which has been running an artist residency program for domestic and foreign artists for several years.

This year artists from other parts of Czech Republic, and also from Bulgaria and China will come to Pardubice to participate. The duo Tonic Train, currently guests of the artist residency program of the Agosto Foundation, will also join the picnic, comprising an evening of presentations by artists and collaborators, and discussions (not only) about art and cooking.

Sarah Washington and Knut Aufermann also present as Mobile Radio, and devote themselves to alternative models of radio production. The combination of Sarah’s homemade circuit-bent instruments and Knut’s feedback electronics creates a spectrum of fundamental electronic noises. It connects two methods of early electronic music practice: the appropriation of electronic circuits to make new sounds from them, and the technically improper use of electronic equipment to make it feed back.

Tonic Train has been influenced by electronic pioneers such as David Tudor and Gordon Mumma. Over time, Tonic Train has taken part in many diverse musical projects and performances, including a feedback ensemble featuring Xentos ‘Fray’ Bentos, Nicolas Collins, Toshimaru Nakamura, Billy Roisz and Otomo Yoshihide. For the last four years Washington and Aufermann have also been producing experimental radio program for London’s unique radio art station Resonance 104.4 FM.
