Tamás Sajó
Art Historian in Residence
Dr. Tamás Sajó is an art historian, translator, travel guide and blogger. He specializes in reading and revealing the historical and cultural meaning of situated artworks (icons in churches, the genius loci of architectural ensembles, and the like) and historically-steeped places with a special interest in what has disappeared, or is in the process of being lost. Originally from Budapest, and currently living and working in Berlin, Sajó speaks, reads and translates in fifteen languages. He regularly leads orchestrated tours, which he describes as “peripatetic lectures” throughout the historically rich cities and regions of Eurasia.

The Second Life of Recorded Sounds
The Third International Conference of the Central European Network for Sonic Ecologies (CENSE)
22-24 October 2020 (virtual)
The Soundscape Research Studio at the Institute of Cultural Studies and the Institute of Musicology at the University of Wrocław will present the third iteration of the annual CENSE conference, in the wake of conferences held in Budapest (2018) and Ústí nad Labem (2019).
The history of sound recording and the recording process itself are key concerns for the field of sound studies. In recent years, researchers have discovered increasingly older forms of sound recording and inscription (e.g., research conducted by the First Sounds Group on Scott de Martinville’s phonautograph resulted in moving the date of the beginning of sound recording back to the 1860s). Meanwhile, the notion of a “second life” of recorded sounds represents an important area for further inquiry.

Pollution Diaries
Collaborative Text Focuses on Air Pollution in Delhi
The new book Pollution Diaries is a collaborative text capturing everyday life experiences from Delhi, one of the world's most polluted cities. It is based on a small corpus of texts collected from an online platform which was active from May 2019 to April 2020. The book captures a series of momentary impressions of residents of the city of how their lives are affected by their daily confrontation with the mega-city’s heavily polluted air. At the same time, it documents their subdued surprise at the air quality improvements during the early phase of the Covid pandemic.
With texts in three languages (English, Czech and Hindi) the book edited by Veronika Resslová, who works as a teacher of the Czech language in Delhi. The book is accompanied by a commentary by Aleš Čermák (published separately in the Agosto Foundation Mediateka), and it was designed by Terezie Štindlová.
A PDF of the book is available for a voluntary contribution to the email address verares@seznam.cz, with profit going to support the rickshaw drivers who participated in the project Metro, Metro? — a gallery of (not only) text and visual art appearing on the cyclo-rickshaws of Delhi.

Náš podzimní tip: Axis mundi (Osa světa)

Střítežská planeta CHAOS je pozoruhodný projekt s provázaností přírody, kreativity, přátelství, osobitosti a úcty. Pomalu a trpělivě přispívá ke společenské soudržnosti místa, k pospolitosti. Je prostorem, kde můžeme s odstupem zanalyzovat osobní emancipační úkol, jenž vyžaduje rekonstrukci našeho vztahu ke světu destruovaného současným širším a záludným jevem, a to postupným mizením náhledu na svět jako celek.
Axis Mundi symbolicky tvoří spojení několika sfér světa, v mytologii nazývaných podsvětní, zemská a nebeská.
Společný svět nám nikdy není dán, nýbrž jej musíme namáhavě tvořit, pokusit se vymanit z manipulace s lidskou touhou, z ekonomického režimu extrakce, výroby a spotřeby, z paradoxní destrukce a přijmout stanovisko kritického optimismu.
