The architecture and literature of the 19th century are perhaps typified by a certain magnificence and grandiosity, both in terms of spatiality and of theme. Following our open call, which ended 15 August, 2018, the Foundation received a total of 76 nominations. Of these, the statutory board has authorized 10 projects for support, based on the recommendations of the selection committee. The Foundation will support the selected associations, initiatives or individuals with a total sum of 700 000 CZK, each project receiving 70 000 CZK.

We are happy to announce the results of this year’s Open Call for Artist Residencies at the Agosto Foundation. After a thorough review of the 180 applications and nominations by board members, we have identified five distinguished applicants.

Bucharest-based artists Anca Benera (b. 1977) and Arnold Estefan (b. 1978) have worked together as collaborators since 2011.

Born 1964 in Lower Saxony, Burkhard Beins has lived in Berlin since 1995. As a composer/performer of experimental music he is known for his definitive use of percussion in combination with selected sound objects. In addition, he works with live-electronics/analog synthesizers and has conceived several sound installations.

Anamaria Pravicencu is a sound artist and initiator of several music and cultural initiatives in Romania.

Chris Hill is a media curator, artist and educator, and is currently teaching and serving as Associate Dean in the Film/Video School at California Institute for the Arts.

Living Villa is an initiative to save and make use of the villa of Johann Nepomuk Kral in Prachatice, which is one of the most valuable buildings of southern Bohemia. Unfortunately it is currently under threat of demolition by the (probably outdated) road redevelopment plan II / 141 of the 1970s.

Tonic Train is the experimental electronics duo of Sarah Washington and Knut Aufermann.

Julien Maire works with new media in his own, singular way often de-constructing and re-inventing analog apparatuses. He gives them a pataphysical slant, disassembling and inverting the functionality of various perception machines, like projectors or cameras. As part of his Agosto Residency, he will exhibit at the Inverse Mindset exhibition which will take place in Galerie AMU from 19 July - 2 September 2018.
